Fourteen students didn't have their magazine open and almost 10 were sleeping, including three playing with cubes, etc. so I decided to give a writing assignment. I then proceeded to write the magazine article (one page column) on the board in about 10 minutes. Almost no one did the work except No. 20. Thus the average mark for this class is low, although there are a few students who deserve a higher mark (as given). As a result of this kind of behavior it is difficult to follow the standard scaffolding lesson plans I usually use (see: magazine lesson plans). == October 24 * Today we followed 'scaffolding for pain and imagination' [[Live-270-44]] yet not a single student turned in the 1 paragraph writing assignment (write paragraph 1) despite having almost 20 minutes to do so. Instead many students slept, played with toys, chatted or did other work. I reminded them two or three times and wrote the assignment on the board so I am sure they understood what they were required to do. Since their lack of work was willful, this poor performance will seriously affect their marks as a class for this semester. == September 18 September Week 3
