The Atari-ST had an assembler that piggybacked on BASIC. Our SD-8516 assembler works on a very similar principle.

The book shown above, "The Atari-ST Assembler" by Don Inman and Kurt Inman is an excellent introduction to assembly language in general, and you will find most of the concepts familiar to how the SD-8516 works.

Please refer to the ASSEMBLE command in Chapter 5 of the [[SD-8516 Programmer's Reference Guide]] for more information on how this system works on the SD-8516.
