Gāo'èr Aì Yīngwén huìhuà
This is a conversation class which follows the Gāo'èr magazine lesson plan guide. There are 41 students in this class and it requires props and scaffolding.
October 25
Today we will follow scaffolding plan
LIVE-270-44. We will focus on the conversation aspect of the class. The students my be required to make some changes to the given conversation in order to personalize and make unique their group's conversation.
October 18
7th Period
Most of these classes are the same, given the syllabus.
However for a conversation class (Gao Er) a slightly different approach is given.
What we do is read through the article and then begin asking questions based on the material.
These questions have several levels.
One level is “factual” such as, “Does a pet trainer have to feed the dogs?”
Another level is “opinion” such as, “Do you think a pet trainer is an interesting job?”
Another level is critical thinking questions such as whether or not what the article says is true.
Can also ask any interesting question surrounding the material.
In these kinds of classes, we invariably break into partners and groups to practice conversation techniques and demonstrate conversations in front of the class. Some small emphasis is placed on rhetorical devices such as “What about you?” and so forth.
