Gao Er Li iEarn Syllabus

This is the outline of what I plan to teach in this class, on the following dates:

This is a short version of the in-depth schedule (see below).

This is a more in-depth version of the quick synopsis I sent via e-mail (see “quick synopsis, above”).

It is based on the course requirements, outlined below (see: “course requirements”, below).

There are 14 teaching classes to accomplish this material, the first two were taken up with a discussion of the iEarn program and another class deciding on what we will do, and then examining some examples of that program (the Day in the Life journal program).

• iEarn Blog
• We will attempt to share our example CMS on the blog.
• Homework: Each student can make a post to the iEarn blog talking about 1 to 3 pictures that they took.

• Collaboration Homework
  • Each student can contribute to an “information page” about Hsinying (our city);
  • “As a class, we will create an introduction to our city, state, school, and classroom using (dokuwiki) and then post the project's blog to post our information.”

• Students will create their first photo diary by themselves.
  • They will share the 3 meals that they ate on a specific day.
  • They will document their meals using either photos or pictures along with a description of the food.
  • Applying their knowledge of adding sensory details in their writing.
  • It must contain a step by step documentation of that day.
  • This can be recorded on their personal dokuwiki page. They can also just upload a PDF.

• Students will research heroes in their community and create a short essay describing why they are heroes, and what they have contributed to society.
• Students may also write about their own families and compare and contrast how they differ from other families.
  • They may share a personal narrative written about their family or simply share a day in the life with their family.)

• Students will write a combined essay and photo journal about their school life.
• How do they go to school?
• How do they eat lunch?
• How do they clean the school?
• What are the classes like?
• Is there too much homework?
• Are there bullies?
• Students can get creative!
• Homework: Students can ask for other opinions from students around the world on the iEarn blog. Do they have the same type of thing? Is the other school difficult? What kind of sports do they play?

• November 27

• There was no class last week so we will continue with last class's activity and review and refresh.

• Movie Composition
• Explore using iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere and Audition to produce a video and/or photo montage, with voice over and subtitles, explaining a day in the life of your school (or whatever).
• The teacher can use his own materials or use a student's materials to show the example project.
• iMovie is free. Also: HitFilm, CapCut, Lightworks, and Filmora Go. Don't forget OpenShot, which is probably the best one.

• Continue the above class.
• We will produce a movie and publish it to youtube and put it on the iEarn blog today.
• For homework the students must make a short photo montage or video and post it to the iEarn blog at home.

• Student Project (Part 1/3)
• Create a multimedia (just photo is ok) story to share about your life (anything; school, hobbies, family, etc). This will be the student's final project.
• Each student will choose a CMS and/or a format (movie, music, photos, journal, etc). Even art (drawing) is ok!

• Student Project (Part 2/3)
• Help the students with their personal projects.
• teacher can evaluate anyone who has a final project by now.

• Student Project (3/3)
• This is the last teaching class. Help the students with anything they need. They must post their material to the iEarn blog on their own in order to receive a grade, or, teacher can evaluate anyone who has a final project by now.

• If students are late they must e-mail a link to their project to the teacher.
• They can also post their project to the doku or to youtube if they cannot post to the iEarn blog, but they must send a link to the teacher.

• January 15

• This plan was designed for students to particapate in the One Day in the Life Project

• Integrate global awareness throughout my curriculum.
• Help students develop 21st century skills.
• Promote global communication through online forums

• Increase students' global awareness of other students, communities, schools, and families by sharing different areas of our daily lives using different forms of multimedia.
• Gain knowledge of different cultures, communities, and schools around the world by applying their knowledge of technology and using 21st century skills to communicate with other students.
• Students will learn differences and similarities between cultures, how to locate different areas on a map/globe, and learn to how collaborate with people who are different than they are (ethnicity, race, language, country) in turn practicing peace, collaboration, communication, and tolerance.
