People put something on the table for the ghost who doesn't have something to eat. 		Ghost Month is during 7/01~7/30 in the Chinese calendar.

And the most important day in it is Zhongyuan Festival.There's a saying goes: 'On the first day of the seventh month, the Ghost Gate opens; on the thirtieth day, the Ghost Gate closes. People will hold Pudu to let the lonely ghosts to get something to eat. According to popular beliefs, during this time, the gates between the living and the afterlife open, enabling communication with departed loved ones. The history of Pudu

Pudu can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty, when civil wars resulted in the deaths of many Taiwanese people. In order to worship these lonely ghosts who had no one to worship, the Pudu culture developed.

Water lantern

The History of Releasing Water Lanterns

This activity is introduced to people in China during 618–690 AD.
At that time, the water lanterns were not only in the Zhongyuan Festival.
After 960-1279 AD, people began releasing water lanterns in the Zhongyuan Festival. |

Water lantern is also an important activity in Zhongyuan Festival. People release water lantern, and have a big event to pray for good luck. The styles of water lanterns can be divided into “floating lanterns” and “lantern floats

The tradition of releasing water lanterns usually takes place on the eve of the Zhongyuan Festival. Before the celebration, raised lantern poles and water lanterns are used to notify the wandering souls on land and in the water, inviting them to partake in the sacrifices. A grand procession is also held. On the day of releasing water lanterns, a stage is set up by the stay, offering sacrificial points and paper plutocrats. Monks or Taoist clerks preside over the form, reciting prayers and Holy Writ. Only after these rituals are completed, the water lanterns are lit and placed into the water.
