Alan Turing (Alan Mathison Turing)

Who is Alan Turing?

Alan Turing is a British computer scientist, mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and theoretical biologist.Turing was also a world-class distance runner.

Turing showed his talent for mathematics at an early age. When he was 16 years old, he was able to read Albert Einstein's work.

Achievement:

Alan Turing helped win the war by accelerating the technology to break German codes during World War II, improving the machines that allowed the Allies to defeat their enemies in important engagements.

Turing once wrote a paper about computing machines, which was used as a test method to determine whether the machine has intelligence, namely the Turing test. The Turing machine model proposed by Turing laid the foundation for the logical working method of modern computers.

Tragedy

Alan Turing, who was convicted of “gross indecency” by the British government that had anti-gay laws at the time because of his same-sex sexual orientation, died at the age of 41. In 2012, tens of thousands of British people petitioned the British government to exempt Turing from the crime, and the British government pardoned him the following year.

Our thoughts

Alan Turing also made us understand that we should not ignore the success of others because of some of our own prejudices. We should be a respectful, friendly and tolerant world citizen.
